FOCUS Parent Network Presents:

What Parents Need to Know About

Teen Substance Use and Abuse

Is it “normal” for teenagers to binge drink? Are teens today taking the same risks teens took a generation ago? What substances are adolescents really using these days, and how will they affect their developing brains? How can parents effectively talk with their kids about this challenging topic? What initiatives are in place in UCF School District to help our children make healthy decisions about alcohol and drugs?

Please join us to discuss these questions and much more at our next FOCUS Parent Network meeting. This event will feature a panel of experts to answer your questions and open lines of communication between parents and school representatives on this critical issue in our community.

Date:  Tuesday November 14th

Time:  7-8:30pm

Location: CF Patton Middle School Auditorium

Husky Hustle Results

The 2017 Annual Hillendale Halloween Husky Hustle was a tremendous success.  We had a huge number of people running the races and countless others cheering along the sidelines.  As always, it was a very “HAPPY HILLENDALE” kind of event and captured the spirit of our Hillendale Community.
Thank you to Mary Liz Cawley for all of her work in putting this together!

The Husky Hustle is the culmination of so many things and so many people.  Many of the runners have been training all school year at the Hillendale Run Club.  The Run Club exists only because of the commitment of so many teachers and parents who volunteer their time every Tuesday and Thursday morning so that our kids can train in a safe enviroment.  Huge shout out to Maureen Fricker for managing the run club and being everyones “cheerleader”!  Thank you to our race sponsors who gave generous donations to the Hillendale PTO enabling us to create a festive and safe event.  And last but not least, thank you to the Hillendale Community for always rallying at any chance to celebrate our children.  All of these pieces make this event a success and make us HILLENDALE PROUD!!!

Here are some extra stats for the day …
-  Over 125 people participated in the 5k
-  Over 40 people participated in the Fun Run
-  Over 10 people participated in the Creative Baking Contest
-  3 companies sponsored our event - DDG Engineering, DE Orthopaedic  Speciallists & Chadds Ford Climate Control
-  Countless parents donated time and supplies
-   So many teachers supported this event either at the race or at the running club.  Special thanks to Todd Picard, Jen Callinan for DJ’ing like pros.

Until next year - “ROCK ON HUSKIES”

***There are still Rock on Huskies Spirit Shirts available. If you would like to purchase one please contact Mary Liz Cawley cawleymaryliz@gmail.com $10 per shirt
