A Message From the Co-Presidents

Thank you to everyone who attended our first PTO meeting last week.  We had a record attendance, which is awesome!  

We would like to get The 2016-2017 Hillendale Annual Campaign off to a great start.  This year we are trying something we never have before and that is to reach our goal of $10,000 by October 15th.   

The Hillendale Annual Campaign - A simple, no fuss, fundraiser allowing 100% of your donation to go directly to Hillendale.  

  • The PTO spends about $75 per student on activities that enrich your child's educational experience.
  • Anyone can contribute to the PTO, including businesses
  • Two easy ways to pay:
  • Tax receipts are available upon request.

Back to School Pictures!!!

Without your pictures, we will not be able to produce the yearbook.  Please be sure to submit any school related photographs, for example...back-to-school, Halloween, class parties, field trips, Donut Day, Book Fair, Assemblies...any Hillendale related photos!! The yearbook needs them!  For now, you can email your pictures to hillendale.yearbook@gmail.com.

Husky Hustle

Join us for some HAPPY HILLENDALE fun at the annual HILLENDALE HUSKY HUSTLE 5K & FUN RUN.

RACE DAY FUN FOR ALL - OCTOBER 29

5K RUN: runners are encouraged to RACE IN THEIR COSTUMES and prizes will be given out for the craziest costumes

3/4 MILE FUN RUN: great event for our younger students

CREATIVE BAKED GOOD CONTEST: bring your treats to the race the morning of for all to enjoy and prizes will be given to the most creative bakers

POST RACE FUN: inflatables, refreshments, music and dancing

Pre-register by October 22 to be guaranteed a "HAPPY HILLENDALE" LONG SLEEVED SPIRIT RACE SHIRT.  

Race day registration starts at 8am but race shirts are limited to those who pre-registered.  5K Race start at 9am with Fun Run immediately after.  Roads are closed for safety reasons so please make sure you are on campus by 8:45am at the latest.

HES Restaurant Night

Please come out to support the Hillendale PTO by joining us for the Hillendale Elementary evening at the Liberty Place market in Kennett Square on Tuesday October 4th from 5-8pm! No flier or voucher is needed and 15% of the market's total sales go towards the PTO so encourage your friends, family and neighbors to come out as well. Dining options at the market include Buddy's Burgers, Yo'R So Sweet Crepes, State Street Pizza, Kaboburritos, Paradocx Winery, Punk'd Pineapple Ice Cream and Sweet Magnolia Bakery. There is something for everyone.


AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS

Good News Club 

After school Yoga

After School Yoga- for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students. Discover the wonders of yoga in a fun, interactive way with other students.  Classes include some games, yoga sequences/ poses and meditation.  For more information contact Kelli Dougherty at kellirich@comcast.net . Spaces are very limited.  

Creative Actors Club

Calling all actors! The drama club is back at Hillendale this fall. Starts Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2016; 3:30-5pm. Class is limited to 14 and open to 2-5 grades.


HES Foreign Language Enrichment Program 

The Foreign Language Program is preparing for this year's foreign language offerings!  Classes are offered to students in Grades 2-5, who are interested in an introduction to a foreign language and culture.

Classes are typically offered in the mornings before or after school in Chinese, French, and Spanish.  Classes will meet once a week for 20-weeks beginning in mid October.  

Please sign-up if you are interested in enrolling your child in a foreign language, so we have an idea of the numbers of students that may be interested; it's non-binding and used just for planning purposes: Sign Up Genius

Chess club will meet at Hillendale on Tuesdays from 3:30-4:30 starting on September 27. This club is open to all grade levels. Chess Club Sign Up

Science Explorers

The first club of the school year begins soon!! Science Club will meet on Fridays in the Science Lab after school from 3:30-4:30 and is available to students in grades 1-5. The first club topic, which begins on9/30/16, is WACKY WORLD OF SCIENCE.  The first session is a special introductory 3-session club! Experiment with catalysts and create a fizzy, foaming fountain, learn about circuits to create your own electric game, explore the amazing power of air pressure, and make "Bernoulli ball poppers".

The Fall Running Club kicked off on Tuesday September 6 and will meet on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:00-8:30 in September and October in preparation for the Husky Hustle. Save the Date: Unionville Community Fair

The Unionville Community Fair is September 30, October 1, andOctober 2. From livestock shows to local food, live music and a rodeo, you can get a first-hand look at agriculture at the annual Unionville Community Fair. 

The Unionville Community Fair and Farm Show has the largest display of community agricultural and home products, handcrafts and arts in Chester County Pennsylvania.Most exhibitors are local residents competing for ribbons and awards as they are judged by PSACF guidelines. 

Fair Entry Day:  Wednesday, 9/28, 2:00-9:00 PM

Denim and Diamonds:  Thursday, 9/29  6:30-10:00 PM 

Lip Sync Competition: Friday, 9/30 6:00-8:00 PM

Fair Dates:  Friday, 9/30, 9:00 AM-9:00 PM; Saturday 10/1, 9:00 AM-9:00 PM; Sunday 10/2, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM.

***General PTO Meeting***

The HEPTO General  Meeting will be held on Tuesday September 6 at 7PM  in the Gym. Special Guest Speaker Dr. John Sanville will be there and will discuss the FOCUS book titled How to Raise an Adult by Julie Lythcott Haims as well as new line items in our PTO budget. Please plan on attending this very important PTO meeting! 

HEPTO Annual Campaign

Your donation to the HEPTO supports programs and materials that benefit all Hillendale students.  These include Art-In-Action, Assemblies, Outdoor and Playground Enhancements, Renovations in the LGI, Community Service Projects and more. Donation forms are available at the school office or online. Thank you for your tax-deductible donation!

Alex's Million Mile

During the month of September Hillendale Elementary joins Alex's Lemonade Stand to raise awareness and funds for childhood cancer. Run, bike, or walk anytime from September 1-September 30 and track your miles. Bring in your miles every Monday so we can track the progress of Team Hillendale. We will have various events for the kids to participate in throughout the month. Some examples include weekly walks on our trail and lemonade stands sponsored by our PTO. Alex's Million Mile Flyer

The Outdoor Classroom


The Outdoor Classroom has been renovated! Thanks to a great suggestion from Mrs. Cipollini and Mrs. Wanner we have moved the bird houses and given them a new home around the pond and created a new gravel pit for the kids to play in. HUGE Thanks to Anthony Massari for installing the bird houses and Stephens Excavating for making the gravel pit.

Now all we need are any toy trucks that you no longer use and would like to donate to the school. Please send in attn to Mrs. Cipollini.

The Outdoor Classroom also is in need of weekly weeding. If you can donate your time to help please sign up here.

Directory Information

This year the UCFSD Directory will be available in a PDF format in PowerSchool in the Parent Portal. Printed directories will still be available for $8.00 and if you wish to order a printed copy please fill out the order form located here.

New Lunch Program


This year MySchoolBucks will be replaced with SchoolCafe. If you want to use this online payment system you will need to create a free account by clicking the picture above. There is also an app for SchoolCafe available in the App Store and on Google Play. If you have any questions about the program please  see the FAQ tab on the UCFSD Food Service page.

UHS Field Hockey Clinic on Saturday, September 10th

Train with the champions! Join the Unionville High School field hockey teams and coaches to build your skills for the season. The clinic is for grades 1-8 and will be held at the Unionville High School Stadium from 9 am-12 pm (8:30 amcheck-in) on September 10th. The cost is $25.00 per player.
