The General PTO Meeting will be Monday, November 14 at 9:30 AM. Ken Batchelor from the District Office will be there to discuss later school start times.

Donut Day!!

Please join us in the cafeteria on Thursday, November 10th from 8am to 8:30 am for donuts, coffee, cider and milk and head up to the book fair afterwards! Please remember, no students are permitted to attend donut day without a supervising adult. Those parents who plan on attending the book fair after donut day should register in advance using the link below before November 8th.  Pre-registration will allow you to have a pre-printed badge, and you will not have to exit the school to attend the book fair.

UCF Coat Drive

UCF Coat Drive - Now through December 15th, we are collecting gently used coats, hats and gloves to be given out to local families in need this winter.   There is a collection box located in the Hillendale lobby.  The Kennett Area Community Services Holiday event is Dec. 17th and local needy families come to pick out these coats as well as toys and food.  (We will be collecting new toys after Thanksgiving-more info to come on this.)   Please make sure ALL clothing donated is WASHED and in good condition.  Questions? contact Kelli Dougherty at kellirich@comcast.net

Submit Your Pictures to the Yearbook!!

Without your pictures, we will not be able to produce the yearbook.  Please be sure to submit any school related photographs, for example...back-to-school, Halloween, class parties, field trips, Donut Day, Book Fair, Assemblies...any Hillendale related photos!! The yearbook needs them!  There are a couple ways to submit your pictures to the yearbook this year:


  1. App for your phone - Search for Balfour Image Share in your app marketplace, download the app.  Our project number is 722564 and password is Husky2016
  2. Website upload - point your web browser to images.balfour.com to upload photos from your computer
  3. Email pictures to hillendale.yearbook@gmail.com
  4. Burn a CD or save to a thumb drive and send to Marla Cassidy via backpack express with Reid Cassidy (Mrs. Tatum)

Please note, the yearbook staff will review all photos & determine final yearbook content. We cannot guarantee that all submissions can be used

AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES/CLUBS

Science Explorers

The next club of the school year begins soon!! Science Club will meet on Fridays in the Science Lab after school from 3:30-4:30 and is available to students in grades 1-5. The next club topic, which begins on 12/2/16, is CRIME SCENE CAPERS 

Become a Science Explorers CSI! Each week a new suspect will be revealed, and we'll use forensic techniques to solve the mystery of "whodunit".  Learn how to lift fingerprints, analyze unknown substances, conduct simulated blood typing and use a black light to reveal glowing evidence. Will you be the one to crack the case?

Club topics later in the school year include Kitchen Chemistry, 3-2-1 Blast Off, and Super Duper Product Sleuthers.

The Science Behind Later School Times

A community meeting will take place at the new Patton Auditorium on November 7 from 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM and will feature Dr. Judith Owens, MD, MPH. This is a presentation on the science behind later school times followed by Q&A. For more information take a look at the flyer

Topics Covered:
**The science behind sleep and teenage sleep cycles
**What is being recommended by the AMA, AAP and CDC and why
**Examples of work done and outcomes achieved in other communities

Family Portrait Fundraiser
Just in time for the holidays, we have teamed up with photographer Jordan Hayman, to offer family portraits to our UCFSD families.  Portraits will be taken at Anson B. Nixon Park, on November 6th and 13th.  For $100 (retail value $250), families will get a 30 minute photography session, with multiple poses, and a $25 print/digital download credit.  The UE PTO will receive a portion of each sitting fee.  The fall leaves should still be in full swing, and these would make beautiful holiday gifts.

Boys' Basketball Skills and Drills Clinic

There will be a skills and drills clinic at Unionville High School on Dec. 3, 2016 from 2:30-6:15 PM in the main gym for boys in grades 2-8.The clinic will be broken down into hour long, age appropriate clinics. For more information and to register fill out the Registration Form

Parent Night  at HES on Internet Safety

The Crime Victims' Center of Chester County will be at HES to present an Internet Safety Program for parents. The CVC will analyze social media, games, and apps that young people are using today. To see other topics being discussed and for more details please read the Parent Night Flyer

4th/5th Grade Ski Free SnowPass

This program allows 4th or 5th grade students to ski free (with a paying adult) at various slopes in PA.

Book Fair Starts Today!!

The Scholastic Book Fair starts today in the Hillendale LGI!  Come explore this exciting treasure trove of fun, engaging, affordable books!  

Volunteers are needed!  This is a fun week long event and we cannot do it without your help.  We are keeping the Book Fair open until 4:00 each day so help at the end of the school day during dismissal would really be appreciated.  We also need your help to run cash registers or roam the floor helping students.

Bingo Tonight!!!!

BINGO IS TONIGHT!!!!  6:45-8:30 in the Hillendale cafeteria.  

Bingo calling starts promptly at 7:00.  The fee is $1.00 per person and $3.00 per family.  

There will be snacks and water available for purchase. ALL children must be accompanied by a parent.  

Many of your favorite teachers have donated prizes that will be raffled off that night.   Some of the fun things you can win include: an opportunity to fly the Husky Drone, a basketball game with Mr. Ricci's daughters, watching Americas Funniest Home Videos with Mrs. Lind, your class playing Matball with Mr. Claypoole, being principal for 1/2 a day, and many ,many more!
