It has been proven that expressing gratitude makes people happier.   And since we are Happy Hillendale, we are always expressing gratitude.   Join us and spell out the words "Thank You" using any objects you would like.   Examples include, shells, crayons, stickers, etc.. Take a picture and send it to kellirich@comcast.net   We will then print out the pictures and hang them all over our lobby.   Local Kennett businesses are participating in this "Thank You" project and would like to get as many folks as possible expressing their own gratitude.   Let's show the community all we have to be thankful for.

Art in Action Volunteers Needed

Hello friends. It's that time of year again where we will need one parent from each room to come in for our volunteer training workshop for the Art in Action program. Local artist Lele Galer has created this amazing and fun program along with the curriculum.  This year we will focus on Impressionism. This entails you running through a slide show, discussing painting slides and the artists in the art room.  It's a very open forum with the children openly discussing the slides with you.  You don't need to know about impressionism or technique. Lele Galer will give you a presentation on "How to" on Tuesday, March 28th from9:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m. in the art room.

The days we will need volunteers are Monday, April 3rd D day/Tuesday, April 5th F day/Friday, April 7th B day. I have posted to exact times and teacher names/grades for the sign-up.

President's Message

Thank you to Kate Givans and Sue Steuber for Chairing the Bagged Lunch Program this year.  Over the course of 8 weeks they made 360 lunches that were delivered to His Mission in Kennett Square.  We simply cannot achieve great community service without the volunteers who shopped every week and came in to help our kids decorate bags and pack the lunches. Thank you for your time and effort.  It is truly appreciated by many.

Thank you to Marla Cassidy and Christine Sauder for Chairing our 3rd Grade Read-a-thon, which was Friday night.  If you are not familiar with this program, this is just an extremely fun night for 3rdgrade that is all themed out by a book.  This year was Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone and one the kids will remember for a long time. Shout out to all of the 3rd grade parents that helped make this a truly magical and wonderful event.  Way to go 3rd Grade!

Thank you to Nicole Rossman for Charing our 4th Grade Skating Party.  4th Grade comes together with all of the other schools for one big 4th grade party.  This event was yesterday and a fun time was had by one and all.

Message from Nurse Maia Walter: Wellness Week

Next week, March 13-17 is Wellness Week:  A healthy body needs a healthy mind!

There will be different activities throughout the week to teach students to keep their brains healthy in different ways.

There are 6 important areas needed for brain health:

1. Physical exercise

2. Food and nutrition

3. Medical health

4. Sleep

5. Mental exercise

Your brain gets better with use, so exercise it and take care of it!! Get exercise, think a lot, try new things, eat healthy foods, get enough sleep, enjoy friendships, be kind to others, and protect your head by wearing seat belts and helmets for contact activities.

Here's the schedule:

Featured daily on HETV:  1) activity, mindfulness exercise, or brain game for students to participate in while watching;  2) brain facts

Brain Fitness Trail  (all week)

There will be large white pieces of paper forming a trail throughout the upstairs hallway and lobby. On each piece is an activity described ( breathing, movement, brain game) that utilizes different parts of the brain and contributes to brain health.   We hope it's fun!
