There are still a few items in the LGI that need to be picked up for those that used their own dishes, please pick up as soon as possible. Thank you!

Food Allergy Awareness Week ( May 14-20)

We are collecting food in our lobby for the Kennett Food Cupboard.  Specifically for this week, we are collecting "allergy friendly" items to help the people they serve who have food intolerances or allergies.   These items tend to be a little bit more expensive and the food cupboards typically don't have enough of these items to fill the need.

Examples of what we are collecting :

*Non-dairy milks - unfrigerated almond, soy and coconut milks

 *gluten free pastas and flour mixes

 *gluten free certified oatmeal

 *canned fruit

A few food allergy facts -

A food allergy is a medical condition in which exposure to a food triggers a harmful immune response. The immune response is called an allergic reaction.   People can be allergic to anything, however the eight major food allergens – milk, egg, peanut, tree nuts, wheat, soy, fish and crustacean shellfish – are responsible for most of the serious food allergy reactions in the United States. Every 3 minutes a food allergy reaction sends someone to the ER.

How you can help?

* Understand food allergies

* Wash your hands after eating

* Don't share your food with friends who have allergies

* Get help right away if a friend gets sick

* Show kindness( Hillendale does an AMAZING job with this one)
